Radio Oltre

A summary of last year’s broadcasts
Luca Torrente

In 2024-2025, Radio Oltre broadcast a variety of cultural programs, podcasts, and shows on music, literature, history, social topics, and science.

One of our top programs was “Anteros o della reciprocità” (“Anteros, or reciprocity”) by Loretta Secchi, telling the story of the Francesco Cavazza Institute’s Anteros Museum. Its eight episodes, describing how the museum achieved international importance, were in line with the reasons for Radio Oltre’s existence, i.e., to support the spread of products of cultural interest and to promote the Institute’s activities and initiatives. The “Tolomeo” project, the podcast about the projects of our colleague Fabio Fornasari, has the same outlook. "Tolomeo" narrates the ten-year progression of a uniquely Italian reality, which many try to imitate but few manage to approach. Future episodes will be fascinating! Gennaro Iorio, another long-time colleague, will return with "R.O.C.," the cultural program telling stories with reviews, articles, and first-hand testimony, including features such as “the Blind Anthropologist” and specials on Bologna’s bookshops. Last year, after a decade of collaboration, he decided to add "Wikirunner," a program on running, with comments on his personal experience in this sport.

Nicola Rabbi, reporter, educator, and collaborator with Accaparlante, a colleague of the Institute for years, offered a program on clear writing that could be accessible to everyone. For various reasons, Italians have a hard time reading newspapers, a government documents, books, or other written texts. This podcast is intended for anyone who writes and truly wants to be understood. With Accaparlante, we co-produced “Via Libera,” six episodes edited by Alvise De Fraia and Lucia Cominoli that describe the work of the association’s teachers with young people who have complex disabilities, relations with parents, and the hopes and expectations of a life dedicated to the search for personal independence.

Without a doubt, the year’s most experimental show was “La prevenzione non va in vacanza” (“Prevention doesn’t take a vacation”), a video podcast in which our orthoptist Federico Bartolomei interviews top eyecare specialists and explores the greatest risk factors for sight during the summer. On the other hand, our friends at “Legg’io” (“I read”) invented "A letto con le galline" (“To bed with the chickens”), devoted to fans of reading, which in 2025-26 will be accompanied by “incipit,” short readings of novels that have made literary history. Radio Oltre also produced a series of episodes dedicated to cultural personalities, such as “Fellini on the radio,” six episodes exploring Federico Fellini’s radio plays from the 1940s, including interviews with experts and colleagues. Another important series, “Puccini,” produced for the 100th anniversary of the composer’s death, discusses current social themes, maintaining a strong bond with the local area and adopting an inclusive and innovative approach.
