Week for Eye Injury
Prevention in Sports
The Istituto Cavazza never
gives up on its commitment in the prevention field. Following campaigns geared
towards children and older adults in Bologna's social centres, the Week for Eye
Injury Prevention in Sports was held this year. Among the various stakeholders
with which the Institution has developed an agreement we find: UISP, Bologna's
provincial committee, an organization counting nearly 44,000 members, promoting
sports on the territory, and thanks to which it was possible to see this project
come through. Every day, a sports centre was visited and at least 2,000 people
were able to take advantage of a professional and free eye consultation. The
initiative's objective was to allow people who practice any sports,
beginners or almost professionals, to receive a consultation
concerning possible eye problems. Once such pathologies were detected (if
present, of course), maximum support was offered with suggestions for
therapy. People were given information and advice about optical
protection (glasses, contact lenses, ocular protection) more adapted to the
practice of sports. The objective is to give everyone the possibility to
practice their favourite sports without having to face any sight-related
problems. For this edition again, the essential support of the following people
and groups was tremendously appreciated: opticians, members of Assopto di
Bologna (who worked together with eye specialists and orthoptists in consulting
with people) from the Optics and Optometry Institution Benigno Zaccagini,
responsible for staff training, Mr. Andrea Afragoli and Mrs. Raffaela
Casini, respectively President and Advisor of Ottici Bolognesi. We must also
emphasize the important contribution of Hoya Lens and Bausch & Lomb, leaders
in the field of optics, as well as that of AFM S.p.A. of Bologna, with 36
community pharmacies in the territory, the group is considered important in
terms of economy and health, playing a fundamental role in the promotion of
health for citizens of all ages.
