Federico Bartolomei
Law number 284 of
1997 has defined the scope and modalities of intervention in the State
and the Regions towards the issue of visual impairment, as well
as rehabilitation strategies, in order to provide maximum
independance for persons who have a visual disability. This law
proposes two new elements: on one hand, it requires the creation
and development of centres specialized in visual rehabilitation, and
on the other hand, it defines the contribution of various specialists in
multidisciplinary working groups.
The Master's degree in low vision is
created with the intention of developing common knowledge of culture and
language shared by professionals working in Low Vision Centres. It will
deepen and integrate previous training in order to provide consistency, and
optimize the entire delicate process of visual rehabilitation in which they
will be involved.
The course curriculum will include a training period at
the Institute for the blind Francesco Cavazza, which will provide
experience and knowledge from more than a hundred years of activity
relating to persons who are blind or visually impaired.
The Master's degree,
under the direction of Prof. Renato Alberto Meduri, is co-financed by the
European Social Funds, consequently participation to the course is completely
free of charge. At the end of the course, the University of Bologna will
confer the title of 1st Level Master, as well as a certification from the
Region of Emilia Romagna.
